That one is just laziness or an oversight.  In fact, I don't think those
need to be conditional at all.

The only cases where #ifdef platform it is warranted is in header files to
be installed that need to adapt to multiple platforms (i.e. the
configurations that have 32-bit and 64-bit modes selected at compile time).
