Cannot build glibc 2.2.4 on i686-pc-linux-gnu

Hi All,

I could not build glibc 2.2.4 on my linux box
$ uname -a
Linux redhat 2.4.2-2 #1 Sun Apr 8 20:41:30 EDT 2001 i686 unknown
$ gcc --version
2.96
$ make --version
