__gmon_start__ issues between 2.1.x and 2.2.x on sparc(?)

FYI, I had someone check libncurses4 on RedHat 6 sparc, and it too
defined this symbol. So this doesn't appear to be Debian specific (I was
sure it wasn't, but I want everyone else to be sure too).
