glibc 2.1.3 and emacs

You should;-).  The problem AFAIR was a bug in older versions of both
XEmacs and glibc - and both have been fixed in the meantime (might
have been already in 2.1.2, I don't remember exactly).  We can't
maintain bug compatibility.
