   Sheesh. Give me a break! I thought that glibc-2.0.7 binaries were
   supposedly upwardly compatible with glibc-2.1 libraries?

They are if programs use the defined interfaces and not any backdoors
into the internal implementation.

The staroffice folks can provide a LD_PRELOAD shared object which
exports the internal glibc-2.0.x symbols it wants to get at via weak
aliases for people who want to use existing staroffice binaries with
glibc-2.1.x systems.
