glibc update problems

If I'm not mistaken, even egcs-1.0.2 already had the compatibility
code, so there is no need to go to a snapshot.  Just gcc-2.8 seems
to have the problem.

Another reason to choose egcs-1.0.x over gcc-2.8 at this stage...
