Compiling for Android 2.2 (API version 8)

That should be happening automatically, as part of the "preprocess" step.
If using Ant, it's the "preprocess" target; if using make, it's the
selected-java-source.  Either is supposed to be run automatically.
What command lines did you use to build Kawa?
