I've tested the earlier versions with valgrind -- all ok.

I am writing a program to do a direct comparison with the LAPACK DGEES
routine -- I'm about halfway through that. 

I'll use it to do some independent exhaustive tests for small integer
matrices and leave it running on large random matrices to compare the
accuracy.
