another round of testing

I have installed the library successfully on

Pentium PC Linux 2.4.16 by

gsl configure 1.3.20030813 , GNU Autoconf 2.57 , Mtools version 3.9.7 ,
gcc 3.2.1 , ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.4.3 and GNU Make 3.80 .
