Output of gsl-config --cflags

Hi.
What's the rationale behind including `-g -O2' in the output of
`gsl-config --cflags'?
I can see situations in which I might what to compile a GSL-using
program without `-O2', and to do this I'd have to stop using gsl-config
(or give an explicit -O0 on the command line, which seems ugly).
I note that glib-config (the equivalent program for the Glib libraries)
just gives the necessary -I options.
Cheers,
Phil
