multidimensional root finders

I have started checking in a skeleton framework for multidimensional
root finding (directory: multiroots) this weekend. I am planning to
implement Powell's Hybrid algorithm from MINPACK as the main solver.
Any suggestions or recommendations of papers in this field would be welcome.
