I can confirm that the patch applies to the 2.26 version of glibc (with
up-to-date Gentoo patches) and fixes the problem reported. Specifically, have
tried this patch by applying it to Gentoo version of glibc 2.26,
rebuilding glibc package and re-running the test provided by Max. 

It reports no errors on the patched version, and it does report error on the
unpatched version.
