GDB C API -- does such a thing exist?

That page says that Lazarus links to (lib)gdb, but it actually uses  
GDB/MI. It's Free Pascal's own text mode editor (see e.g. http://wiki.lazarus.freepascal.org/File:fp_ubuntu_13_10.png 
  ) that links to libgdb.
