Mcore library gdb

Hi
    I am using gcc cross compiled for mcore to compile benchmarks and
then gdb to simulate. I find that many benchmarks crash at many
library calls like assert, sometime fscanf.  Is this an issue with the
library (newlib) or the simulator.  Would any be able to sugest as to
what can be done. I will appreciate any ideas. suggestions.
