gdb performance

The solaris5.8 machine and linux machine(rh7.3) in the same network.
When use gdb to load the application or list the symbol, it's more slow on 
linux
than on Solaris.
The application is about 150M and on the server.
The client machines access it through NFS.
when load the application, the network monitor shows most of packets 
protocol
on Solaris is TCP while is UDP on linux machine.
Is it normal?
Or it's the reason make the bad performance?
