setting tabwidth

I'd like to have gdb print 4 spaces for every tab in my program when I
list code.  There seems to be a .gdbinit item:

   tabset 4

but it keeps throwing me in -tui mode.  Is there a way of setting the
number of spaces per tab in gdb's code listing that doesn't put me in
the ncurses UI?
