C++ testsuite changes

Also, I tested this on native i686-pc-linux-gnu with v2/v3,
dwarf-2 and stabs+.

In the future, I will test changes this big with both tcl+expect+dejagnu
stacks (the stock released versions, which I usually use, and the
sourceware versions).
