No, I hadn't thought of any of those, although my intention is not to
preclude any useful attributes being added.  I don't want to bite off
too much at the start though --- all I was asked to do was to support
n-bit reads and writes, but I wanted to put in place a complete frame-
work rather than yet another hack.
