g77 seems to be long gone and gfortran doesn't have -fcase-preserve.
So, although this bug may persist in gdb (unknown), we don't really
know how to reproduce it.
I'm going to close this report since I tend to think it's obsolete.

Feel free to reopen if there's some way to provoke it.
