I'm currently testing a patch that also includes a test-case, and I'll post it
on the mailing list as soon as that's done, and link to it here.

You could test that patch and see if it works for your original use case, but
given the trivial nature of the reproducer and the root cause I don't think
it's really necessary.

You reported a regression with an easy reproducer that worked the first time I
tried it, and which identified a hole in our regression test suite.
