I built binutils-gdb from git (i.e., version 18.0.50), and applied the first
four patches (https://patchwork.sourceware.org/project/gdb/list/?series=54251)
successfully.  I had some issues with two of the other seven patch files
(https://patchwork.sourceware.org/project/gdb/list/?series=54336), either
because the patches were reversed or already applied.  (I wasn't sure how to
respond to the patch command's prompt re: -R, so I don't know whether I chose
correctly.)

I took a look at bug 20503, and I see that a couple of the issues there have
been fixed (one even since 16.3), but the majority are still problematic.  At
least that's the case on Linux.  I'd like to be certain I have the patches
applied correctly before stepping through the details with you, just in case
some of these have been resolved.
