linking any program with -lrt will cause gdb to crash after program execution starts
mendell@cedar:~ > cat > t.c
int main()
        printf ("hi\n");
mendell@cedar:~ > gcc t.c -lrt
mendell@cedar:~ > src/gdb-5.1/gdb/gdb a.out
