It's repeatable with selftest.exp, pr gdb/1677,
but that does not qualify as a small example.

gdb running on gdb ... now use gdb to debug that ...
actually it's not so bad if you run selftest.exp
and then do '/usr/bin/gdb /my/unstable/gdb core'.
to sniff around in the data structures.

I'll see if I can make a small demonstration this week.
