[commit] Tweak NPTL support in gdbserver

Daniel Jacobowitz drow@false.org
Wed Dec 8 16:03:00 GMT 2004

If the first test for libthread_db (using -lthread_db) succeeded, LIBS was
never reset. This left -lthread_db in LIBS, which doesn't work because it
requires some of the ps_* symbols to be defined; this broke the later check
for -rdynamic in the configure script. In turn, because my system has
the LinuxThreads libthread_db.so where GNU ld will find it, and the NPTL
libthread_db.so where ld.so will find it (a typical setup), without
-rdynamic ps_get_thread_area was not exported. So we couldn't debug
threaded applications.

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure how it worked for me before. I suspect
my system had a broken libthread_db.so symlink at the time. The link test
for /lib/libthread_db.so.1 did reset $LIBS OK.

I also added ps_get_thread_area to the libthread_db link checks. Currently
it is only referenced as a weak symbol, but we might as well be thorough.

Committed. I can debug NPTL applications using gdbserver on
i686-pc-linux-gnu again.

	* acinclude.m4 (SRV_CHECK_THREAD_DB): Add ps_get_thread_area.  Reset
	LIBS when finished.
	* aclocal.m4: Regenerated.
	* configure: Regenerated.
