et al. has no period after the "et" - "et" is the 
complete Latin word, it is not abbreviated.

Karl Berry will be submitting a diff after cleaning up
some Texinfo problems.  The big one is eliminating
the duplicate @syncodeindex statements at the beginning
of gdb.texinfo. Those were preventing the index from printing.
