[ECOS] Inputs required for Embedded Systems Project

I had a general query on ecos and am really not sure whether this is
the right place to post this...so please excuse me if I am wrong...

I am completely new to ecos and embedded systems but am good at OS and
networks theory. I have taken a course on Embedded systems and I need
to do a project for the same.

My idea is to take a PC104 board, install ecos along with the
necessary libraries provided by Linux for packet filtering, nating,
iptables etc.

My queries are as follows:

1. What is the kind of board I should select for the above mentioned
application? I am looking for atleast 2 ethernet ports along with it.
Also ecos port should be available for that board.

2. Is it really possible/feasible for me to use the libraries that
come along with linux for packet handling by just compiling it with
the ecos OS?

3. Any suggestions how I can improve on this idea?

What I should be able to take back from the project is to understand
how ecos(or for that reason any other RTOS) works along with using it
for developing a specific appliction related to N/Ws.
