[ECOS] How to achieve a timer functionality?

Hi,

           How can i achieve the timer functionality in the eCos, with
the avaialble APIs.
Is it correct, creating a clock and attaching with an alarm, just like
in any other systems,
a timer will issue an eventhandler after the period of time it has set to.

           Could any body give an example code pointers.
