[ECOS] Changes required when replacing the PHY on the AdderII board with a LXT971 PHY??

hi community,

can anyone suggest the mechanism used by adderII to
detect the PHY chip on board ,because the PHY package
is not included in the ADDER code.

and what changes would i need to make in the adderII
code if i replace the AM79C874 PHY on board with a
LXT971 PHY.
