What sort of real time we are talking about here? I would consider
most networks devices are best effort devices.

Take a look in hal/i386/pcmb/current/src/pcmb_screen.c It also seems
to support the keyboard. I've never used eCos on the PC platform....

Maybe thats more appropritate for your application?
