[ECOS] cyg_select()..?

Hi,
    Could some one explain me the use of cyg_select() functions..i m not
able to understand even after reading the select.cxx and some select()
info(chap 27) as mentioned in the eCos reference document..

basically i want to know, when to use this function and how it works..
i m not sure if i need to include this function into my sound driver.
