Where possible use ymodem. Then do it by giving RedBoot the command:
load -m ymodem

and then pressing:

Ctrl-a s

which should bring up a window in minicom from which you can select ymodem
and then the file to download. Be warned RedBoot does time out eventually
so don't take too long.
