You should probably ask this question of the RTEMS folks.

The problem most likely is that RedBoot (eCos) will be
executing your code in 32 bit mode.  Most [OS] startup
code expects to run in the 16 bit (real mode).

... better yet, why not just use eCos instead of RTEMS?
