Perhaps you would like MSYS2 - it is Cygwin, but with patches to try to
make it integrate better with Windows processes.  The biggest such patch
is a heuristic to automatically translate apparent paths in arguments and
environment variables when Cygwin processes call native Windows processes
and vice-versa.  Git for Windows is based on MSYS2, for instance.
