Best way to backup 1.5 to go to 1.7

I have made a backup of 1.5 by 7-Zipping the entire directory and also
backup the "mount v2" tree of "Cygnus Solutions" in the registry. I
have had problems upgrading to 1.7 on one pc and could successfully
restore my 1.5 installation.
