tar fails to expand simple tar.gz across junction point

have U tried a later version?  your version of Cygwin seems kind of old; 
*my* system is old, and i get
    CYGWIN_NT-6.1-WOW64 freesoft007 1.7.1(0.218/5/3) 2009-12-07 11:48
