Simple bash script is slow to execute - appears to be time spent starting commands like ls

  Appreciate you meant well, but 360kB is /just a little/ on the large side to
send out to an entire mailing list 99.9% of whom probably aren't following any
given thread that closely.  Perhaps you could dump it in a pastebin next time?
