I guess there could be some constraints MSFT ran into due to
the way they wanted to do interactive buffering but still.

ok, that should be fine. I just ran cat in mintty and
it is very fast- still maxes out CPU but it is doing a lot and 
fully 1/2 the time seems to be kernel time.
