If so, then it is not happening on Win98SE, so your subject line is wrong.
You would have been better off starting a new thread for your actual
problem, rather than resurrecting an old thread about an unrelated platform.

Or, try using cygwin 1.7, which has a newer build of git and several
plugged memory leaks; it may just work for you off the bat. I'm no longer
maintaining git for cygwin 1.5 (although I do need to find some free time
to build a newer git for cygwin 1.7).
