Brian, you mentioned that you detected the other problem
with single-stepping in GDB.  Would you be able to
publish the setup steps to enable me/others to find
this sort of problem?

It seems likely that the problem is in cygwin since the
test passes with redirection and works in the stock
Python25 distro.  Potentially similar to the other thread
issue you found?
