strange cp behavior with (coreutils 5.2.1)

Could you please try the test release of coreutils-5.3.0-2 and see if the
issue is still there? Are you complaining because the file should have
been accessible with your first approach, or because it should have been
inaccessible but the error message added '.exe'?
