Apparent bug with vim

Platform: NT/2000

Problem description: When a file with extension ".con" is opened with vim,
it produces an error message such as the following.

command: vim foo.con

screen dump:
"foo.con" [New File]
Error detected while processing /usr/s
line 42:
E64: \? follows nothing
Invalid argument: ctermFunction^I^I"\?
Hit ENTER or type command to continue

On hitting ENTER, editing continues as normal. The best I can tell, there is
no detrimental effect thereafter.

Can someone explain this?

Many thanks,
Regards,
