cygwin randomly pauses under Win2k

Great!

I set up a strace on the 'doit script', and the very act of
running strace seems to make everything behave as 
expected.  But, I can't run this thing all the time, as 
strace generates a small quantity of output.
Oh well, I'll keep monitoring it for a while and see what
comes out.....
