HOWTO uninstall or update "cleanly" the concrete package from the distribution?

Hello,
I'm asking about this `cause it takes a long time to remove the whole
existing installation, then run setup.exe, select _again_ every needed
package from the full list :( -- and do all this when you need just upgrade
to the new version of bash or vim.
