crontab: can't obtain passwd entry

As you suggested I used the following command to try trace this.  As I am not a C or
C++ programer I am including it as an attachment.  Maybe you will understand a little
better what it is saying (though I will read it and try to understand what it is
doing).

strace crontab -e > /tmp/strace.out
