I did confirm that the problem doesn't occur on x86_64. On x86 though, it looks like a Heisenbug - it behaved differently when running in the debugger, and differently depending on how you hit it in the debugger. To me it looked like it was buried somewhere in the threading library, but I didn't really get far enough along to say. I was hoping it was related to a bad configuration file somewhere that I could refresh. Right now it sounds like it's something that was upgraded recently, but I have no way to track that down. Do you think it's a bug in GTK+, or another library? If there were any kind of workaround, that would help me immensely. I've been using Cygwin 32-bit for years. I'm running on Windows 7, and my Cygwin 32-bit has been working reasonably well for a long time. My only issue with it was a problem it had with my Caps Lock key. For whatever reason, focus would switch windows whenever I pressed the Caps Lock key. The caps would lock, but focus would change. I finally decided to download the latest and greatest to see if it has been fixed. It appears that it is no longer an issue. Now I have a new problem. I usually "ssh -X " to a remote Linux machine. I can then read mail (thunderbird), edit documents (LibreOffice 3.x), run Chrome, and edit programs (Emacs). I'll have half a dozen windows open through the X tunnel provided by ssh. Works well and lasts for hours. After upgrading to Cygwin 64-bit (this last weekend), everything *seems* to be okay for a while. After about 20 minutes, though, I can no longer open windows remotely. Even though I have thunderbird currently open, when I try to run Chrome, I get "(google-chrome:20006): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: localhost:10.0". If I try to open xclock from the command line, I get: xclock Error: Can't open display: localhost:10.0 Does anybody know what happened? Why has the tunnel disappeared? It hasn't actually disappeared because I'm still running thunderbird through it. Thanks for any assistance on this. This is a new dependency of Xephyr in 1.15 as it's been xcb-ified, and due to setup limitations this needs to be added as a dependency now. Please try test releases and report problems to the Cygwin/X mailing list. Testing helps ensure good releases! The following cygwin-specific changes have been made since 1.15.0-1: * Fix a crash which could occur when a GL client exits without deleting it's GL contexts * Don't create fbConfigs for un-accelerated pixelFormats provided by the generic renderer. Illegal control character Message-ID: <01E9402441FFBB4BBEA0A82549A7D94A1F0D0A78@ORD2MBX10A.mex05.mlsrvr.com> I updated my Cygwin today (1.7.27-2, 32bit cygwin on Windows 7 64bit). I run the Cygwin/X Xserver 1.14.5-1 I get errors with xrdb (1.1.0), and when I go back one version of xrdb (1.0.9), it works fine again. This is fixed in mcpp-2.7.2-2, which will be hitting the mirrors soon. > % xrdb -load ./.Xresources > /home/pbecker/.Xresources:140: warning: Illegal control character 0lx1a in quotation This is a separate issue, but note that it is just a warning; the resource settings are still loaded and work as before. IIUC, the "correct" way to fix this would be to change string("\n~^Z") to string("\n~")string(0x1a), but I haven't tested this. I've got Cygwin with X11 and openbox running, but a few problems stubbornly unresolved: Openbox doesn't have a dock so if you minimize a window it's just gone. There are suggestions to solve this problem with a toolbar application called tint2, however the latter doesn't build successfully on my Cygwin installation (Errors in cmake about compilers not working when in fact they are working just fine). Another major item is some kind of file manager to run inside the Openbox root window. Although I've installed the KDE and Gnome items available through cygwin setup-x86_64.exe, none of the file managers such as Nautilus, Thunar, KDE file manager etc. appear to be part of those installations. I tried downloading a version of rox (rox-2.1.2-cygwin.tar.bz2) but installation failed (gcc apparently detects multiple incompatible declarations in part of the code). Finally, I'd like a simple editor. Have installed nedit, but get 'UTF8 locale not supported' followed by Segmentation fault when I execute it. Any suggestions as to how I can get closer to a simple but workable desktop/file manager/editor for developing and Unix applications?
