Wow - full circle. I was introduced to cygwin because of jikes; back in
1999, I became one of the main contributors to jikes for several years,
and their web page recommended cygwin as an environment for compiling
jikes on Windows, so I gave it a try. It was a couple of years ago that I
stopped active development on jikes, partly because my job no longer
requires me to use Java, partly because of the birth of my first daughter
reducing my free time, and partly because Java 1.5 added more features
than I could implement (and it seemed like no one else was contributing
fast enough). I never had enough desire to ITP jikes, though, because
cygwin did not ship a classpath library (jikes relies on an external
library, and neither gcj nor kaffe's version were as easily available back
when I was developing), and I had no desire to force cygwin users to
download Sun's proprietary classpath library.
