Anyone familiar with VMware?

Can anyone explain to me why my VMware installation suddenly stopped
working?  I used it a couple of weeks ago and "haven't changed anything"
but the shift key no longer works, now.

google isn't too helpful on this subject and, while the vmware knowledge
base has a lot of stuff about keyboards, none of it seems related to my
problem.

Any ideas?
