Since the discussion died down, I didn't see a reason to wait anymore.
I've checked in the patch with slight changes.

This means, we have a 64 bit key_t now and we have ftok exported.  That's
the interesting fact.  If we agree on a new implementation at one point,
we can change it w/o changing the API.
