I haven't had time to really track this down, but the display of the
currently installing package is one such place.  I would suggest that a
"." should not be allowed in the release part of the PVR since otherwise
it'll become very hard to parse or we need to have a list of possible
suffixes that we can strip off before parsing.  Whatever we do, it
should be documented someplace other than an actual piece of code.
