  Rather than alternatives, I think what everyone else is planning to do is
bump their ABI versions, i.e. you'd leave libgmpxx3 as an obsolete package and
introduce a libgmpxx4, and they'd co-exist; that and all subsequent versions
would be built with gcc-4, and maintainers adjust their requires: lines when
they start using -4 to build their dependent packages.
